"Thanksgiving" as it's name implies was a day set aside to remember God and HIS goodness to us as individuals, as families and as a nation. We “GIVE THANKS" to God our Father. Who has created us giving us life. Who has made provision for salvation making available abundant life. Who has promised eternal life for all who believe on HIS SON.
Colossians 1:12-13 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
In 1 Thesalonians 5:18, the believer is called by God to maintain a spirit of thanksgiving. “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” People often are not thankful because they are fighting against the will of God in their lives. They have predetermined and planned their lives. They are not interested in God’s interruptions as HE seeks to write their own personal God story. When believers are not cooperating with God by walking in HIS will they cannot see that all things work together for good. This makes no sense at all to them. Therefore, they continue to pursue the world and the things of the world to discover some sort of satisfaction.
But in this text the believer is given clear reason as to why we must maintain a spirit of thanksgiving to God the Father. We are to live a life of giving thanks unto the Father, "...WHICH HATH MADE US MEET TO BE PARTAKERS OF THE INHERITANCE OF THE SAINTS IN LIGHT:...."
I tell you beloved this text should encourage our hearts; this text should make us shout for joy; this text should cause us to spend this year and all the years of our lives until Jesus comes to constantly GIVE THANKS UNTO GOD OUR FATHER. The Apostle Paul by way of the inspiration of the Spirit of God is telling all believers that we are to be preoccupied with the Giving thanks. Why, because HE has made us meet or acceptable to be partakers of the inheritance. We have been accepted in the beloved. We are presently prepared by God the Father to dwell with HIM and the other saints in heaven.
If a King and Queen have a son, that son at birth is the royal heir. If he were not a son, he could not be an heir nor have any part in the inheritance of the Kingdom. The son is born as the heir of the kingdom. And all the while HE is growing and maturing HE HAS THE RIGHT OF INHERITANCE. As a son, he has been made meet to receive the inheritance.
1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:....
Romans 8:16-17 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
We are to give God the Father thanks because HE has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.
How do we know if we have this inheritance? How do we know if we are a son of God? Because we are partakers, RIGHT NOW, as we grow and mature we bear the image of the Father. We are being changed as we behold the glory of the Lord. We believe the promise of God. We embrace the Word of God. We surrender to the teachings of the scripture. We are partakers of the inheritance of the saints IN LIGHT. As a saint of God, we have a desire to dwell in the light: in the light of the knowledge of God, in the light of the purity of Christ, in the light of the joy of the Lord, in the light of the love of God. This is where the believer desires to dwell for it is HIS inheritance. The witness of the Spirit of God that has been born in our spirit bears witness of the light.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
We love the light. We long for the light which is nothing more and nothing less than the manifest glory of God for God is light. And although we were once hopelessly lost in our sins, condemned to a
Christ-less eternity we have been made meet to be partakers of HIS kingdom. When that trumpet sounds, We shall be changed. Without a lesson these hands that have labored in the world will be fitted to play the songs of Zion on the harps of heaven. Oh this voice that is often raspy and this voice who in times past has cursed the very name of God will now be fitted to sing songs of praise with such heavenly beauty. Praise that shall be magnificent in quality and praise that shall resound through out the portals of glory into the outermost reaches of the universe.
This body that is becoming more frail by the day shall be gloriously remade to travel the great distances of eternity clothed in a white robe of righteousness and upon this head shall wear an everlasting crown. I know that as we travel this way through time with Christ and the farther along we go we mature. We grow. Daily we are being changed into HIS image. But, if God would call anyone of HIS blood bought believers home, or if the trumpet would sound, we would be meet to dwell in the Kingdom above. HE has made us HIS sons. We are heirs of the kingdom. Should we not give HIM thanks this day and every day of our lives?
